New peer to peer rental platform Loanhood set to launch

A new subscription free peer to peer platform called Loanhood – described as “like Depop but rental” - is set to launch to the public on 7 July 2022, with an ‘All Smiles’ campaign.

Founded by three female former fashion industry insiders, former model Jade McSorley, graphic designer Jen Charon and model agent Lucy Hall, Loanhood has quickly developed a community of fashion lovers and indie brands pre-launch, “who are equally as passionate about the planet as their personal style”.

McSorley said: “Loanhood is a fashion rental app for everybody’s wardrobes. We are a platform where you can upload items onto the app and rent them out to other people in the community and make money from it. Likewise, you can borrow from other people in the community.

“When you think about rental, you think about renting for occasions, weddings and parties, but what we’re trying to do at Loanhood is make rental your everyday choice instead of buying something new for wherever you’re going. It might be going to the park with friends, it might be going to a gig or a festival - you rent it instead.”

Loanhood aims to support emerging designers and the rental option aims to provide them with the platform to rent out pieces from smaller collections, “so they can go wild with what they’re creating”.

Lovet designer Natasha Mays commented: “The great thing about Loanhood is that it gives you the opportunity to meet new designers and creators. They all have different skills that we can learn from and collaborate together on.

“This is the first experience I’ve had where you can come together online and actually see who’s behind the clothes. I think that’s what drew me to Loanhood. It’s genuine, and the people behind these clothes really care about what they’re doing, who’s wearing them, and how accessible it is.”

The new platform’s mission is to say “every garment matters”, be it high street or vintage, handmade or from a cult brand, “so start renting with what you have already”.

McSorley added: “The younger generation is environmentally and socially conscious, but so far hasn’t found a rental app that aligns with their personal and individual looks. Loanhood is the answer, providing a platform where they can connect with like-minded people in an all-inclusive community.”

From catwalks to magazine covers, the fashion industry has notoriously shunned smiles, but Loanhood is setting out to change that with its new ‘All Smiles’ campaign.

The new Loanhood app is available to download from the App Store and Play Store from 7 July.
