Net-A-Porter warehouse workers resume strike action after rejecting latest pay offer

GMB members at Net-A-Porter's Charlton warehouse in South London have begun two days of strike action after rejecting the company's latest pay offer, with the union arguing the new proposal relies on performance targets workers deem "unrealistic".

The strike, taking place from 7-8 July, follows a ballot that saw 69.7% of members vote to reject the revised pay package. (Of the nearly 100 GMB members, a total of 73.3% of members voted on the latest action).

Industrial action had previously been scheduled by GMB for June, but was postponed to allow for negotiations brokered by independent public body, ACAS, to go ahead.

Those negotiations produced a revised proposal that combined salary increases with a performance-related bonus, which workers have now rejected.

Warehouse workers first raised the dispute over the London Living Wage in March. The rate stands at £14.80 per hour in 2026.

According to earlier GMB figures, the company's previous proposal would have put the lowest-paid workers on £14.41 per hour, £761 below the annual equivalent of the London Living Wage for a 37.5-hour week.

"Industrial action is always a last resort, but our members have spoken clearly and deserve a fair pay increase and to be treated with the respect their hard work deserves," said Craig Prickett, GMB Regional Organiser.

"GMB postponed strike action in good faith to allow negotiations under the auspices of ACAS. Our members wanted to reach an agreement and gave the company every opportunity to improve its offer.

He added that members specifically raised concerns that a "significant part" of the proposed pay package relied on performance targets that they believed to be "unrealistic, unachievable and, in many cases, outside of employees' control".

"Many workers felt some of the targets would be difficult to achieve consistently and could be affected by factors outside of their direct control. Members also questioned why they should have to rely on a bonus mechanism to reach pay levels they believe should be reflected in their basic rate of pay."

Prickett added that fresh redundancies added to workers' discontent, which is leaving "many employees facing uncertainty over their jobs".

The redundancies sit within the broader transformation plan of LuxExperience, Net-A-Porter's parent company, which the group confirmed in May included partial workforce reductions across several sites.

The Charlton warehouse has seen industrial action before. Workers first walked out on 20 May this year, and in 2023, 91% of GMB members voted for strike action ahead of Christmas before a last-minute agreement brought pay up to the then London Living Wage of £13.15 per hour.

Prickett said GMB remained ready to engage if the company returned with an improved offer.

LuxExperience had previously commented that it "fully respects our employees' right to take industrial action" and remained "open to engaging in constructive dialogue with union representatives" while protecting the long-term sustainability of the business.

In May, LuxExperience, which also owns Mr Porter, Yoox and Mytheresa, reported stable sales and continued profitability for the third quarter ended 31 March 2026 and confirmed its full FY26 guidance.

Yet, Net-A-Porter reported a decrease in net sales of 5.1% to €231.6 million in the third quarter, on a constant currency basis. Its adjusted EBITDA also saw a slight decrease of €1.1 million in Q3.

Michael Kliger, Chief Executive Officer of LuxExperience commented on the results saying: "Net-A-Porter and Mr Porter as well as Yoox showed further sequential improvements, fully in line with our ongoing transformation plan for both segments."
