Net-A-Porter relaunches mentorship programme for emerging designers

Championing emerging talent, Net-A-Porter and Mr Porter have joined forces to relaunch the Vanguard mentorship programme.

The programme, which first launched in 2018, will serve as an incubator for up-and-coming designers with exclusive capsule collections. In addition, the retailer is offering an education fund to final-year design students, in partnership with the British Fashion Council.

The three designers chosen for the 2024 programme are Diotima and Liberowe, available at Net-A-Porter, and Kartik Research, available at Mr Porter. The recipients have launched exclusive capsule collections available now.

For the first time under The Vanguard mentorship, these exclusive collections have Digital Product Passports. The collections will be amplified across the retailer's channels through a dedicated marketing campaign.

Beginning in October, the bespoke Vanguard mentorship for each designer has also been extended to two years as a commitment to nurture emerging talent. Throughout their mentorship, the designers will have one-on-one access to two mentors, assigned from a committee of global industry experts, alongside bespoke guidance from sustainability consultancy, Create Sustain, and ongoing guidance from Net-A-Porter and Mr Porter teams on a vast range of business support,

The 2024 mentorship panel includes:

• Alison Loehnis, ad Interim CEO and President, Net-A-Porter & Mr Porter
• Greg Chait, Founder and Chief Executive, The Elder Statesman
• Lynette Nylander, Executive Digital Director, Harper’s Bazaar US
• Julie Ragolia, Stylist and Creative Consultant
• Sophia Li, Journalist, Climate Advocate and Public Speaker
• Claire Bergkamp, CEO, Textile Exchange

Kate Benson, Buying Director at Net-A-Porter, said: "We are proud to present an expanded Vanguard program in partnership with Mr Porter, supporting a diverse roster of talent across both sites and offering designers bespoke and detailed mentorship on both men’s and women’s design. Each of the three designers have their own distinct design DNA, demonstrate promise, a sense of purpose and a commitment to a more responsible future, making them the perfect cohort for this year’s program.

"We hope that by empowering and guiding them through mentorship across a broad range of subjects, and by pairing them with like-minded industry veterans we can prepare and propel them to reach their full potential."
