NET-A-PORTER.COM names new managing director

Lauretta Roberts
09 September 2016

NET-A-PORTER.COM has appointed Matthew Woolsey as managing director; he joins from Barneys New York where he had been vice president of digital.

According to WWD, Woolsey will be based at NET-A-PORTER.COM's London HQ and will be in charge of the day-to-day running of the site and international growth.

He will report to the luxury etailer's president Alison Loehnis who was promoted from the position of managing director last year following the departure of its founder Natalie Massenet, who left after its merger with Yoox.

Loehnis has described Woolsey as a "21st century thinker" and praised his in-depth understanding of the American consumer. Prior to Barneys, Woolsey launched the digital practice for consultancy business Group SJR, which develops digital branding, editorial and mobile strategies for clients including Barneys and Target.

Woolsey's position will be similar to that of Toby Bateman who is managing director of Mr Porter. Bateman was promoted last November following a management shake-up that led to the departures of the former head of Mr Porter, Ian Tansey, and the head of The Outnet Stephanie Phair. His start date is yet to be confirmed.
