British luxury house Mulberry is moving into the eyewear market following the signing of a manufacturing and distribution deal with Italy's De Rigo.

The new line will launch for SS19 in Mulberry flagship stores, at mulberry.com and in select wholesale and optical stores.

Mulberry CEO Thierry Andretta said the new line, which will include sunglasses and optical frames, would be designed by Mulberry creative director Johnny Coca and his team.

"Eyewear is complementary to the brand’s core leather goods offering and is an important category in building the lifestyle image that will help develop Mulberry into a global luxury brand," Andretta said.

Michele Aracri, Managing Director of De Rigo Vision, added: “We are delighted to collaborate with Mulberry, which shares our commitment to design, innovation and craftsmanship. Mulberry is at an exciting moment in its history and we look to enter this next phase to further develop this distinctive British brand."

De Riga holds eyewear licensing deals for a number of luxury and premium brands including Nina Ricci, Escada, Lanvin, John Varvatos and Furla.
