Christopher Kane to lead Mulberry's London Fashion Week comeback

Mulberry’s six-year runway absence will come to an end in September, when it stages its first womenswear collection by Christopher Kane on the London Fashion Week schedule, marking a strategic push back into ready-to-wear under CEO Andrea Baldo.

Scheduled for 20 September, the show will be titled "Mulberry by Christopher Kane", with the collection set to arrive in stores and online in January 2027. Kane was appointed Creative Director of women's ready-to-wear in March, with the runway debut now giving the appointment its first public outing on the fashion calendar.

Kane, a Central Saint Martins graduate, brings four British Fashion Awards to the role, including Womenswear Designer of the Year. His eponymous label held a regular London Fashion Week slot before closing in 2023. His brand sat within Kering between 2013 and 2018.

"It is an honour to return to London Fashion Week with Mulberry, I am so grateful to the BFC and fashion community for their support since the announcement. It’s an exciting time and I look forward to sharing SS27 with everyone," said Kane.

Back to the Mulberry Spirit

The show sits within Baldo's "Back to the Mulberry Spirit" strategy, which focuses on rebuilding momentum in categories beyond Mulberry's accessories core. The brand ended its clothing and footwear licence with Onward Luxury Group in 2020 during pandemic-era cost-cutting. The last ready-to-wear range, created by former creative director Johnny Coca, was for autumn/winter 2020.

"London has long been a global platform for creativity and culture, making it the ideal stage to debut the Mulberry by Christopher Kane collection," Baldo said. He added that the show underlines Mulberry's "absolute commitment in supporting and championing British talents, creativity and craftsmanship".

Baldo, who came from Ganni in 2024, already has early commercial results to point to behind the creative reset. Under his leadership, Mulberry recorded a 5.7% increase in total sales in the 52 weeks to 28 March 2026. In the second half, the brand recorded growth in all of its markets, with the UK seeing a 13.7% boost in like-for-Like sales.

London Fashion Week's pull on British names

BFC boss Laura Weir has framed Mulberry's return as part of a broader effort to bring established houses back to the London schedule. "One of my earliest ambitions as CEO of the British Fashion Council has been to have iconic British brands return to the London Fashion Week schedule, so it is a real pleasure to welcome Mulberry back," she said.

"As one of Britain's most iconic luxury houses, its return strengthens London Fashion Week creatively, culturally and commercially. This marks an exciting new chapter for the brand under Christopher Kane's creative leadership and an important moment for British fashion."

Mulberry follows Alexander McQueen, which is also set to show in London for spring 2027 after years on the Paris calendar. Both returns point to renewed confidence in the city's position within the global fashion week circuit.
