Employees of British retailer M&S will receive an additional day of holiday to celebrate the "historic occasion" of the Queen's Platinum Jubilee in June.

The four-day Jubilee bank holiday weekend will run from 2 to 5 June 2022 and marks the 70th anniversary of The Queen’s accession to the throne.

Stores will remain open across the bumper weekend but employees in all UK stores, distribution centre and those in customer service will be given an additional day of holiday to use across any of the four days.

M&S is also an official partner of the Platinum Jubilee Pageant, the culmination of celebrations due to take place on Sunday 5 June.

Representing diverse sectors including retail, fashion, hospitality, culture, media, travel and business, 16 partners have come together to form a unique alliance in celebration of The Queen’s 70-year reign. The Pageant has been financed in its entirety by a combination of corporate partners, commercial businesses, royal warrant holders and individuals.

Platinum Partners include Burberry, Moët & Chandon, Marks and Spencer and St James’s House. Pageant Partners include Bloomberg, Cadbury, Fortnum & Mason, McDonald’s, Waitrose and John Lewis.

Helen Milford, M&S Stores Director said: “Everyone at M&S is looking forward to celebrating this historic national occasion in just a few months’ time. To help our colleagues celebrate, we’re pleased to be giving them an additional day of holiday to use over the Jubilee weekend. We hope they enjoy the celebrations.”

M&S recently raised its minimum pay for staff to £10 an hour and boosted its health benefits for workers, changes that are to come into force in April.
