Moss Bros to reopen online operations

Suit retailer Moss Bros said it would reopen its online sale operations on Wednesday, following recent UK government guidance on safely returning to work.

The company had in March temporarily closed its in-store and e-commerce operations.

The online reopening would initially commence with a reduced work force, potentially causing slight delays in the despatching of orders.

In a statement, Moss Bros said: "The board also notes the government's recent update regarding the potential phased reopening of shops from 1 June and is developing plans to reopen its stores in an orderly manner in light of this."

The company also confirmed it has accessed the Government's coronavirus job retention scheme, cut staff salaries and made redundancies "where necessary and unavoidable".

The report details that Board members have reduced their salaries and fees by 60% to 70% during this crisis.

The cost saving measures had given it confidence that it had "sufficient cash resources to continue trading through the second half of the 2021 financial year and beyond", with the group remaining debt free and retaining cash in the bank.

The news comes after the owner of Crew Clothing seeks to pull its £22.6 million deal to take over the menswear chain just over a month after agreeing the takeover.
