Moss Bros makes changes to its board

Lauretta Roberts
14 August 2019

Moss Bros has announced the appointment of Avis Darzins to the post of non-executive director, with effect from 1 September.

The menswear retailer has also announced that Maurice Helfgott will be standing down from the role of senior non-executive director after serving nine years, in line with good corporate governance.

Helfgott will, however, stay on the board and support incoming chairman Colin Porter until the next AGM in May 2020. In the meantime Alex Gersh will take over Helfgott's role as senior non-executive director.

Darzins brings considerable retail experience and, specifically, a strong background in retail operational transformation to the Moss Bros board.

At Accenture, where she was based for eight years as a partner focusing on the retail and consumer products sector, she delivered successful engagement with many well-known national and international brands such as Gap Inc, putting in place the infrastructure to enable Gap to launch its Banana Republic brand onto the UK high street.

Darzins also founded her own management consulting practice in 2013 following four years as director of business transformation at British media and telecoms corporation, Sky. She has built over two decades experience in retail development and utilisation having secured business leadership roles at Arcadia, BHS, Mothercare and Littlewoods.

Commenting on the board changes, Colin Porter, said: "Avis's significant track record in retail operational transformation is strategically important for the Group as we look to strengthen the business for future growth.

"We are delighted she has decided to join the Board to share her considerable experience as we pivot Moss Bros further to be a multi-channel business offering with a strong e-commerce platform.

"I also thank Alex for assuming the additional role of Senior Independent Non-Executive Director and thank Maurice for agreeing to stay on the Board until the next AGM and helping us to continue to develop the business."
