Milltag collaborates with TfL for cyclewear capsule collection

London based cyclingwear brand Milltag has collaborated with Transport For London to create a limited edition collection celebrating the famous Moquette patterns on the seats of the London Underground.

For the first collection, two Moquettes are available: the fresh blues of the Victoria Line and Autumnal tones of the District Line. Milltag products combine cutting edge garment technology with high performance fabrics and a slim but not skin tight fit.

Milltag's jersey has seen an evolution for 2020 with a new sleeve finish for added comfort. It is also reversible and has no silicon for a smooth feeling on skin.

Using innovative anti-bacterial, active wicking Carbonmesh material, the fabric keeps body temperature regulated all day, meaning it doesn’t flap in the wind or cling to the rider is in a riding position.

The jersey also includes three rear pockets with a hidden valuables section secured with a zip. Underneath the pocket is a reflective strip for an added touch of safety.

Ed Cowburn, Milltag Founder and Creative Director, told TheIndustry.fashion: "Milltag was set up ten years ago to provide cycling jerseys that spoke to us in a way that kit at the time did not. Why couldn’t we have designs that incorporated the things we had a true emotional attachment to? Like bands, artists or design classics?

"Being a London brand and using the Tube (when not riding obviously), the classic moquette patterns have always been on our fantasy list of collaborations. It’s therefore very excited for us to work with TfL to create these collections.

"It’s amazing to see the patterns used in this way, changing their context completely and it really works. We worked very hard to recreate the patterns to perfectly the real thing, checking size and colours. Just be careful if you take the Victoria or District line wearing them as you may get sat on. We don’t want that in this time of social distancing.”

The range will is available for pre order via the Milltag website until 8th November, for delivery in December 2020.

In August, TfL announced it would Crossrail would not open until 2022, coming as a blow to retail businesses who feel like the construction work has caused damage to Oxford Street’s economy.

This is TfL's second venture into fashion in 2020, having previously launched a t-shirt collection with Done London.
