Men's Fashion Weeks across Europe are cancelled

Men's Fashion Weeks across Europe, which were due to take place in June, have been cancelled or postponed as a result of the COVID-19 coronavirus crisis, which is sweeping across the continent.

London Fashion Week Men's has been cancelled with the British Fashion Council saying that it was investigating “new ways [for designers] to digitalize their fashion showcase platforms.”

In Paris both the Couture shows and Men's Fashion Week, have been cancelled. They had been scheduled to commence on 23 June and 5 July respectively, with France’s Fédération de la Haute Couture et de la Mode saying it was "working with its members on possible alternatives".

Meanwhile in Milan, the Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana has said that its Men's Fashion Week, which had been due to commence on 19 June would be merged to take place alongside the womenswear shows in September.

With many retailers and businesses on lock-down across Europe, it seems unlikely brands will have time to create collections in time for the shows and many buyers are expected to be subject to travel bans for some time after the lock-down is lifted.

Finances are also set to be an issue for many brands, designers and buyers as they will be left with vast amounts of excess stock from SS20, which they have been unable to sell.

Pitti Uomo, the international men's trade show in Florence, has maintained it will still be going ahead on 16-19 June with the physical event supported by a digital platform. Organisers Pitti Immagine said it was "fully aware that this fair season will not be like all the others, it will be an exceptional season".
