Fashion investor Mayhoola is donating €1 million to Sacco Hospital in Milan to help combat the COVID-19 epidemic. The company will also be donating an additional €1 million to Italy's Civil Protection.

Mayhoola is the the parent company behind luxury brands Balmain, Valentino and Pal Zileri and is operated by the Qatari Royal family.

The investment firm said in a release: “Mayhoola is determined to support two different projects related to the emergency situation that Italy is currently facing."

The first part of the donation will focus on improving “the efficiency and security” of the Intensive Care Treatment Unit (ICU) at Sacco Hospital in Milan.

Milan has been one of the cities worst hit by the Coronavirus epidemic and the Sacco Hospital has been inundated by infected patients requiring intensive care treatments.

Mayhoola will spend €1 million on a negative pressure ventilation installation, which allows medical staff to assist Coronavirus patients in a safer environment. The installation is designed to reduce infections amongst the health care staff and to guarantee safety measures for all those working in intensive care units.

Mayhoola said in its statement: “We are very close to the Italian population and we are constantly monitoring the evolution of the pandemic in the country. We are pained to see what is happening in Milan and we strongly hope that this decisive action can help the doctors and their teams of Sacco Hospital."

The investment group has worked with General Manager of Sacco Hospital, Alessandro Visconti and Dr. Emanuele Catena, in charge of the Anesthesia Department and Intensive Care Unit (ICU), to cover all funds across the hospital.

Visconti and Catena said: “We really would like to thank Mayhoola, Valentino, Balmain and Pal Zileri for their generosity and for having prioritized the health and safety of those fighting against this ongoing pandemic."

The second step will involve Mayhoola making an additional €1 million donation to the Protezione Civile Italiana. The Protezione Civile Italiana (or Civil Protection Department) is the main Italian government organisation which leads the prediction, prevention and management of national emergencies.

Mayhoola added: “Our production plants and offices are widespread across the diverse and beautiful Italian regions: Lazio, Lombardy, Piedmont, Veneto, Tuscany and many others. It’s absolutely remarkable how Protezione Civile Italiana is operating within the entire country and the way in which it continuously stands behind the needs of Italian citizens.”
