Matalan's Chief Customer Officer exits following in footsteps of CEO

Matalan's Chief Customer and Omnichannel Officer, Ali Jones, has exited the retailer after less than two years in the role. She follows CEO Jo Whitfield, who announced her exit in October. 

When joining Matalan on 19 April 2023, Jones was tasked with establishing a new customer function within the value retailer to “connect all customer touchpoints and provide further clarity and accountability” for customers.

Prior to this, she was the Customer Director at Co-op for five years. She also previously held senior brand, omni-channel and marketing roles at Woolworths Australia, M&S, Next and Arcadia Group. Most noticeably, she was Marketing Director at Debenhams for almost 11 years from August 1999 to May 2010.

A Matalan spokesperson told TheIndustry.fashion: "Ali Jones, Matalan’s Chief Customer and Omnichannel Officer, has left her role with the business.

"We thank Ali for her contribution to Matalan and wish her all the best for the future."

This follows the news that Matalan's CEO was exiting the brand back in October 2024. Chief Executive Jo Whitfield has stepped down after just over 18 months in the role. After taking on the position in March 2023, Whitfield is said to be leaving the business to "pursue a portfolio career".

In November 2024, Matalan strengthened its senior team by hiring James Dorling as Director of Property and appointing Keith Down to its board as Non-Executive Director and Chair of the Audit Committee.
