Marks & Spencer to rebrand as Markle & Sparkle to mark the royal wedding

Marks & Spencer is celebrating tomorrow's royal wedding of HRH Prince Harry and Meghan Markle with a Markle & Sparkle rebrand at its store in Windsor, which the couple is expected to pass on their way back from the ceremony at  St George’s Chapel, along with stores in eight royal boroughs across the country.

The Windsor store's new fascia's will be unveiled this morning at 10am while teams have been working overnight to erect new branding and transform the windows of stores in Kensington & Chelsea, Reading, Maidenhead, Camberley, Bracknell, Newbury, Leamington Spa, Tunbridge Wells, Swindon, Kingston Upon Thames, Lewisham, Llandudno and Sutton Coldfield with specially designed Markle & Sparkle displays.

A town crier will be present to unveil the Windsor store's temporary new look along with M&S characters Percy & Penny Pig who have recently been married themselves. And selected M&S stores up and down the country will be staging the retailer's first ever nation-wide street party tomorrow.

“As a quintessentially British brand we had to do something special to mark the Royal Wedding and what better way to welcome Meghan to the family than to ‘marry’ both our names together for the weekend. As a retailer we’ve celebrated 34 Royal Weddings over our 134-year history, but this is the boldest idea we’ve delivered yet!" said Marks & Spencer's new marketing director of food & hospitality Sharry Cramond.

"We wanted to spark a smile from Harry & Meghan on their big day and capture the excitement and celebratory mood of the nation on receiving a real-life Hollywood Princess into our Royal Family!” she added.

Marks & Spencer's social media channels were all shut down last night with the promise that they too are undergoing a "makeover". The retailer is planning a social media campaign where customers are invited to take their photos using Markle & Sparkle photo booths and send them to Marks & Spencer with the hashtag #MarkleandSparkle. The images will be used to create a virtual wedding album which will be sent to Kensington Palace on behalf of M&S customers, staff and the British public.
