Marks & Spencer leads fundraising efforts with new Neighbourly partnership

Marks & Spencer has announced a new partnership with Neighbourly, in which it will be leading fundraising efforts for charities helping those most in need during the Coronavirus outbreak.

Neighbourly is a platform which connects community projects and charities with companies and individuals.

To start the Neighbourly Community Fund, Marks & Spenser will be donating £100,000, with the money going towards Neighbourly’s network of hundreds of charities and community groups across the UK.

Through the M&S Sparks loyalty card, customers can also support the initiative by selecting the Neighbourly Community Fund as their Sparks charity. Every time an M&S customer uses their Sparks loyalty card to shop in-store or online, the company donates a penny to their chosen cause. The scheme has seen over £6 million donated to various charities.

Furthermore, all excess food and flowers from M&S stores will be redistributed to charities and organisations through the Neighbourly platform.

CEO of M&S, Steve Rowe said: "One of the things that makes me most proud to work at M&S is the role we play in our local communities. We can’t do this on our own and so we partner with organisations like Neighbourly who link our stores to local causes so we can donate surplus food and non-food products to the people who really need it. This fund will help mobilise over 1,000 local charities and organisations across the UK to support the most vulnerable members of our community.”

COO of Neighbourly, Zoe Colosimo added: “Community organisations are coming under immense pressure and need support now more than ever. Immediate funding can help give immediate peace of mind that they can take urgent action to support the most vulnerable in our society. We know needs will evolve as we move through this crisis - from loneliness to hunger to financial concern, but we’re all in this together and we must keep working together.”

Marks & Spencer has also announced a donation of £100,000 to the National Emergencies Trust Coronavirus Appeal.

Recently, the high-street retailer announced it had frozen all pay rises and suspended all spending not seen as absolutely essential and warned that its clothing and home lines would take a severe hit from the COVID-19 Coronavirus pandemic.
