Marks & Spencer introduces Mrs Claus

12 November 2016

Marks & Spencer will be hoping to detract some attention from John Lewis and its already hugely popular Buster the Boxer ad this Christmas with its Mrs Claus campaign, unveiled last night.

At the centre of the Marks & Spencer campaign is a three-minute cinematic ad that tells the story of Mrs Claus who, while her husband Santa is away delivering presents, comes to the aid of a six-year-old boy Jake who sends a last minute letter requesting a new pair of shoes for his sister for Christmas after his dog had eaten hers.

Mrs Claus, played by Janet McAteer, calmly moves into action in a red Per Una (£39.50) dress with matching coat (£99), sourcing the shoes, jumping on a skidoo and then taking to the sky in a helicopter to deliver the present - in James Bond-style action sequence.

The ad, filmed in Iceland, was directed by Tom Hooper and is set to a soundtrack of ‘With Love’ by Rachel Portman, which is available to download from iTunes. It was produced by ad agency RKCR/Y&R.

All of the products featured in the ad are featured in a new editorial section on the Marks & Spencer website introducing customers to Mrs Claus where they can learn about her lifestyle and the products featured in the campaign.

Mrs Claus has also taken over the Marks & Spencer Twitter account, where she is described as head of Christmas special ops, and has her own #LoveMrsClaus hashtag and emoji.
