Marks & Spencer halts online orders following cyber incident
Marks & Spencer has stopped taking online orders as the retail giant struggles to recover from a cyber incident.
The department store chain has posted a fresh statement on Instagram, acknowledging its decision pause online orders, adding that it is "working extremely hard to restart online and app shopping" and apologising again for disruption to shoppers.
"As part of our proactive management of a cyber incident, we have made the decision to pause taking orders via M&S.com websites and apps. Our product range remains available to browse online. We are truly sorry for this inconvenience. Our stores are open to welcome customers," reads the statement from M&S.
It comes after the retailer also apologised to shoppers on Tuesday as it confirmed it had to make "minor, temporary changes" to its store operations to protect customers and the business.
It has already been unable to process click and collect orders in stores after being impacted by the cyber incident.
Contactless payments at stores have also been affected by the attack, which has impacted stores since last weekend.
Marks & Spencer previously said it was taking actions to protect its network and had also reported the incident to data protection supervisory authorities and the National Cyber Security Centre.
"We informed customers on Tuesday that there was no need to take any action. That remains the case, and if the situation changes we will let them know." the statement continued.
"We are incredibly grateful to our customers, colleagues and partners for their understanding and support."
Shares in the company fell 4.8% on Friday afternoon as a result.
