Marks & Spencer has appointed Danielle Papagapiou to the newly created role of head of loyalty as it continues with its strategy of placing digital and data capabilities at the heart of its business.

Papagapiou spent nearly 15 years with Tesco and was director of its pioneering Clubcard scheme. She left the supermarket in 2017 and her last role was customer director. In the interim she worked at Vision Express as customer director and as a consultant.

She has been handed the remit to develop Marks & Spencer's Sparks loyalty scheme using customer data to enhance shopping experiences and improve personalisation.

In her new role she will report into chief data and digital officer Jeremy Pee who joined the retailer 10 months ago from Loblaw Digital in Canada. Andrew Mann was also recently appointed as its new head of insight and customer loyalty.

“These changes will enable our digital and data function to become a centre of excellence, help our business grow and unlock the power of data, so we make better customer decisions and deliver a seamless experience for our customers," a Marks & Spencer spokesperson said.
