Mango to open flagship store in Basingstoke as UK expansion continues
Mango will open a 7,104 sq ft flagship store at Festival Place shopping centre in Basingstoke later this year, as part of its continued strategy to open 20 new stores in the UK in 2025.
The store will reflect Mango’s ‘New Med’ concept - an interior design inspired by the brand’s Mediterranean heritage and culture, with natural textures, warm tones and sustainable materials that create a bright and welcoming shopping space.
This latest opening forms part of Mango’s ‘2024–2026 4Es Strategic Plan’, which “aims to reinforce Mango’s differentiated value proposition through driving sales and store expansion”. Globally, Mango plans to open 500 stores by 2026.
Mango is the first major signing at Festival Place following the MDSR Investment’s acquisition of the centre in April for £99.1 million.
Ross Campbell, Director & Head of Asset Management, said: “The key focus of our asset management strategy since MDSR’s purchase of Festival Place has been to improve the fashion offering at the centre.
“Mango’s arrival marks a strong start to this programme. Being part of the brand’s growth ambitions is exciting, as it strengthens its presence in the UK this year with 20 new store openings, reflecting strong shopper demand for its offer.”
Lunson Mitchenall and GCW are the joint agents for Festival Place Basingstoke. Neil Hockin, Joint Managing Director and Head of Leasing at Lunson Mitchenall, added: “It’s a significant milestone that Mango has chosen Festival Place for its flagship store – its offer aligns seamlessly with the customer demographic, and it fills a clear gap in the local market with the nearest store over 27km away.”
Other new Mango stores which will open in the UK by the end of 2025 will be on Kensington High Street and Long Acre in London, as well as in central England, Scotland, Northern Ireland and Cardiff.
This announcement comes as Mango is fast-tracking the expansion of its teen-focused fashion line in the UK, citing strong demand for stylish, affordable youthwear and the growing power of the "teen pound". The Spanish fashion giant will open its third standalone Mango Teen store in the UK on 1 August at Buchanan Galleries in Glasgow.
