Mango has continued its UK retail expansion with the opening of a 4,305 sq ft store at the Eldon Square shopping centre in Newcastle, marking its first in the city.

It adds to the other Mango store openings this year at the Glasgow Fort and Bluewater shopping centres, as well as last month’s store opening at the new Battersea Power Station development in London.

Mango already has a concession in Fenwick department store in Newcastle, but the new Eldon Square store, which is exclusively stocking its Woman line, marks its commitment to city.

Daniel López, Mango’s Global Expansion Director, said: “The opening of our first store in Newcastle is a step further in our strategic goals for international expansion and strengthens our presence in the United Kingdom, a strategic market for Mango and one of the most important for the fashion world.”

Mango, which has been present in the UK since 1998, currently has over 40 stores in the country, including company-owned stores, franchises and concessions in department stores. The company also operates in the UK through its own online channel and various marketplaces.

The new Newcastle store has created 15 new jobs, and it features the Mediterranean-inspired store concept, ‘New Med’, which is already present in some of the company’s flagship stores around the world. It aims to “reflect the spirit and freshness of the brand” and is strongly influenced by Mediterranean culture and style.

Sustainability is also key to the new concept, and the Eldon Square store has a ‘Committed Box’, a container in which customers can deposit their unwanted clothing and footwear to give them a second life. There is also a dedicated click and collect area for garment collections and returns.

Eldon Square is one of the most visited shopping centres in the UK. Located in the heart of Newcastle, it has been a part of the city’s landscape since 1976.
