Luxury jeweller Azza Fahmy makes UK retail debut

Luxury jeweller and fashion collaborator Azza Fahmy is set to open her first UK retail store, in London's historic Burlington Arcade this week.

The concept store, which opens in the Mayfair location on 1 March, forms part of the Egyptian brand’s international retail network expansion plans and will reflect elements of its latest Galleria 40 store in Cairo, which marked the direction of future store designs.

Managing director Fatma Ghaly said the move to open the store came after the brand had invested in growing its UK audience via its online boutique. "www.azzafahmy.com has witnessed significant UK revenue. This market has become one of our important growth areas outside the MEA region," she said.

“The store strengthens our existing retail presence in London and with the educational contribution London made to Azza Fahmy’s [founder and CEO], early career path further enhances our connection to the city," she added.

In the mid-1970s the British Council awarded Azza Fahmy a scholarship to study jewellery craft at the City of London Polytechnic. She returned to Cairo in 1981 to open her first store. In 2002 she opened her factory and design studio, which now employs 200 people.

Fahmy has collaborated with a number of prominent fashion designers including Julien Macdonald, Matthew Williamson and Preen by Thornton Bregazzi, and has also created bespoke collections for the British Museum.

Today the brand is available in 15 stores in MEA and in UK stockists and online retailers.
