Lululemon has joined a growing list of fashion and apparel businesses to announce temporary store closures as a result of the coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic.

The athletic apparel specialist is closing its stores in North America and Europe, from 16 March to 28 March, joining Nike, Abercrombie & Fitch and Urban Outfitters who all announced similar moves over the weekend.

Lululemon said on Sunday workers would continue to be paid and they will receive pay for 14 days if they are asked to self-isolate due to the infection. Its online business remains operational.

“We are living in uncertain times and we’re learning more about this virus every day,” CEO Calvin McDonald said in a statement. “We are taking this step to help protect our global community, guests and people, and ensure we are doing our part to prevent the spread of COVID-19.”

The Canadian business, best know for its yoga wear, has UK stores across London, including Regent Street, King's Road, Westfield London and Covent Garden, as well as branches elsewhere such as Guildford, Edinburgh and Manchester.
