Lucy & Yak launches sunglasses with Brighton neighbour Pala Eyewear

Brighton-based conscious clothing brand Lucy & Yak has launched a limited edition line of sunglasses in collaboration with fellow Brighton native ethical brand Pala Eyewear.

It is Lucy & Yak’s first foray into eyewear, with sales helping to fund a new eyecare facility in Sierra Leone.

The range includes two different styles, ‘Lich’ and Haiba’, which have been designed to fit every face. ‘Lich’ is a current Pala Eyewear bestseller, while ‘Haiba’ is a bespoke oversized square shape created exclusively for the collaboration, which has a retro 70s appeal - playing on Lucy & Yak’s vintage-inspired roots.

The range is available in six different colours, including Lucy & Yak’s classic pinks, as well as vibrant colours which feature prominently in the brand’s new SS23 collection.

Created with eco-friendly bio-acetate - produced using bio-based plasticisers made from renewable sources instead of oil-based ones - and using small batch manufacturing, the range has minimal environmental impact and is all handmade in Italy.

Lucy Greenwood, Co-Founder of Lucy & Yak, said: “This range is an exciting ‘first’ for us with it being our first venture into eyewear. As someone who wears sunglasses nearly every day, I know how they’re the perfect accessory to get your personality across.

“With that in mind, we wanted to create a range of timeless, beautifully made pieces our customers could feel fabulous in and cherish for years to come.’

“As well as being our Brighton neighbours, we really connected with Pala’s mission of wanting to see the world better. Lucy & Yak shares the same commitment to ethical practices as Pala, as well as wanting to create this range with a fellow independent brand, so it all felt like the perfect fit.”

Pala Eyewear Founder, John Pritchard, commented: “We’re thrilled with this collaboration. Having long admired Lucy & Yak as a brand, its values, and of course, distinctive design aesthetic. You can’t turn a corner in Brighton without bumping into someone wearing their ‘Yaks’!

“Being able to work on the ‘Haiba’ and ‘Lich’ styles has been a lot of fun – two distinct, but eminently wearable styles combined with equally distinct colourways that scream the Lucy & Yak colour palette. Importantly for both parties, this collaboration provides further financial support to Pala’s mission to fund a vision centre in Sierra Leone by the end of next year.”

The collection will be available to buy online from 20 April 2023, with both styles priced at £125.
