Lucy & Yak launches limited-edition collection supporting Neurodiversity Celebration Week
Socially and environmentally conscious brand Lucy & Yak is launching a limited-edition collection in support of Neurodiversity Celebration Week, running from 17-23 March.
The collection has been designed by neurodivergent artist and founder of We Are Hairy People, Sarah Caulfield, with 100% of the profits going towards UK neurodiversity charity The ADHD Foundation.
The collection features dungarees, tees and trousers, all made from organic materials and each hand-painted with unique, distinctive illustrations created by Caulfield.
The designs in the collection draw inspiration from animals that represent neurodivergent traits and experiences, "aiming to open up conversations about neurodiversity while celebrating and expressing lived experiences".
Dungarees have been hand-painted with bees in a reference to how, like autistic minds, they follow their own rhythms, working with precision and purpose, whether alone or alongside others.
There are also octopus painted trousers, in reference to them being "highly intelligent, deeply sensitive and masters of adapting to their surroundings", and a snail print T-shirt – in celebration of the beauty of "slow processing, deep thinking, and taking the world in at their own pace".
Caulfield said: "This collection celebrates that being yourself is powerful. Neurodiversity is ‘different not less’, just like the creatures we’ve chosen to represent it."
To coincide with the collection, Lucy & Yak’s recently launched series, ‘Make What Moves You’, celebrates people who forge their own paths, follow their passions, and "dress for themselves, not to fit in with the crowd" - will spotlight neurodivergent makers and creators in the new campaign showcasing how creative expression "isn’t just a hobby or a side project”"
The new collection will be available in Lucy & Yak stores – including its Cambridge store which completed its relocation to an upsized unit at 13 Sussex Street on Friday – as well as on the brand’s website, from tomorrow, 18 March.
