L’Oréal has been awarded the Terra Carta 2021 Seal, which recognises global companies driving innovation and demonstrating their commitment towards the creation of sustainable markets.

The Terra Carta Seal has been awarded to the companies who hold a leadership position within their industry and have solid roadmaps underpinned by globally recognised, scientific metrics for achieving net zero by 2050 or earlier.

Since 2005, L’Oréal has reduced its industrial sites’ CO2 emissions by 81%. In 2020, 96% of the products launched by L’Oréal group’s brands had an improved environmental or social profile.

L’Oréal also aims to ensure 100% of its plastic packaging will be refillable, reusable or recyclable by 2025 and from recycled or bio-based sources by 2030. Along with restoring one million hectares of degraded ecosystems by 2030 through its Fund for Nature Regeneration.

Launched in January 2021 as part of the Sustainable Markets Initiative, the Terra Carta is part of HRH The Prince of Wales' appeal to put sustainability at the heart of the private sector. The charter's aim is to reunite people and the planet, by giving fundamental rights and value to nature, ensuring a lasting impact and tangible legacy for this generation.

Alexandra Palt,  L’Oréal Executive VP and Chief Corporate Responsibility Officer, said: "Being awarded the Terra Carta Seal is recognition of the progress made in our sustainable transformation to date and an opportunity to reinforce our commitment to playing an ongoing leadership role in protecting nature, people and planet.

“At L’Oréal, we want to demonstrate that companies can be part of the solution to some of today’s most pressing challenges. Increasingly, companies are understanding that it will not be possible to thrive in a society that is not inclusive or sustainable and that the cost of inaction will be unaffordable.”

Along with L'Oreal, Unilever, Natura & Co and Amazon are also among the 45 companies honoured for their commitments to achieving net zero carbon emissions by 2050.
