Long-awaited Frasers store opens in Peterborough in major retail boost for city centre

Frasers has landed at Queensgate Shopping Centre in Peterborough, taking over the space formerly occupied by John Lewis, nearly two years after its opening was first announced.

The launch marks the return of department store retail to Queensgate and the city centre, and signals a significant investment in the shopping destination.

Spread across two floors, the new Frasers store brings together Sports Direct, USC, Jack Wills, and Game under one roof, offering premium, lifestyle, and sports brands across women’s, men’s, and kidswear.

The store features globally recognised labels, including BOSS, Coach, Levi’s, BIBA, Tommy Hilfiger, and Barbour, alongside sports brands available through Sports Direct, such as Adidas, Nike, The North Face, Under Armour, New Balance, Everlast, and Slazenger.

A dedicated Flannels store within Frasers also offers luxury and contemporary fashion, footwear, and accessories for shoppers.

The arrival of Frasers, Sports Direct, and Flannels heralds a new chapter for Queensgate, complementing both new and existing retailers, including Primark, River Island, Boots, and New Look, with many hoping the new opening will attract further brands to the destination.

The new store fills a large vacant unit left by the closure of John Lewis, which did not reopen following the third national lockdown during the pandemic.

It also comes after NEXT closed its two-floor store and Marks & Spencer exited the shopping centre (with both retailers now operating from Brotherhood Retail Park), leaving no other department stores in the city centre - until now.

Ed Ginn, Director of Investment Management at Invesco Real Estate, said: "Frasers Group’s opening is the start of an exciting new chapter, and marks significant progress in our efforts to maintain Queensgate as a leading retail and leisure destination in the region and in the UK more widely.

"The addition of Frasers, Sports Direct, and Flannels to the centre raises the bar for potential investment from brands to further enhance the shopping experience, as we continue to evolve Queensgate in a way that provides our catchment with everything they could need or want, in one place."
