London Fashion Week AW22 Highlights: Robyn Lynch

Camilla Rydzek
22 February 2022

Robyn Lynch's AW22 collection marks her most extensive to date, inspired by snowy mountains, winter holidays and the joy of Après Ski.

Signature monochrome looks in the seasonal Pantone shades of chartreuse, electric blue, brown and grey are knitted balaclavas and winter boots, all adding to the slope-ready energy of the collection.

The Dublin-born menswear designer looked to her personal world to establish references for her silhouettes, with several pieces from her family wardrobe being elevated from sentimental objects of emotional importance into contemporary show pieces.

Knitwear was also extensively featured, showing how Lynch continues to make this her creative forte. Textured bouclé and fine cotton knits were on show, whilst a signature merino wool jumper came back in a refined version of a piece from her graduate collection from 2018.

This season also saw her continue the creative partnership with sportswear brand Columbia, creating 10 collaborative pieces for which she used new technical fabrics, including nylons made out of ocean waste, and contrasted them against reflective thread and beaded embroidery. Lynch also used the outerwear brand’s innovative ‘OUTDRY’ technology as the base for the trademark shapes and created customised Columbia winter boots to complete the look.

Commenting on the partnership Lynch said: "Revisiting this project with Columbia has been an eye-opening experience. Getting to learn from industry leaders on technical fabrication development and science has been a highlight of this season, which has definitely influenced the way I work with deadstock, but also my approach to design in general.”
