Liverpool One creates 'living green wall' as part of sustainable placemaking strategy

Shopping complex Liverpool ONE has created a "living green wall" as part of its sustainable placemaking strategy that will create a natural barrier to traffic pollution, boost biodiversity in the city centre and extract carbon and gas from the atmosphere.

Over the next 12 months, the wall will generate almost 145kg of oxygen from its 7,500 pollinator-friendly plants, and is expected to be seen by more than 10 million people in the next 12 months.

Positioned at the entrance to Chavasse Park from The Strand, the wall is accompanied by the Liverpool ONE In Bloom campaign, which will see a large array of botanical and floral arrangements of varied textures and colours across Peter’s Lane, Paradise Street and South John Street.

As part of the placemaking strategy the owners Grosvenor have also created a heritage trail which takes visitors across 16 locations and looks back at Liverpool One's 300 year history by introducing them to an event, a place or a person with a fascinating tale.

Donna Howitt, Place Strategy Director at Liverpool ONE, commented: “We know from experience that such activations deliver a commercial benefit, creating additional reasons to visit or extend an existing trip. Consequently, we have hand-picked new designs and activities that will be sure to boost anyone’s mood, and at the same time provide some blooming lovely photo opportunities.”

It has been a busy six months for Liverpool ONE with premium footwear and handbag brand Russell & Bromley and fashion label Stradivarius both set to open new stores.

Earlier this year, Rituals also expanded its UK presence with a new store in the complex, alongside Inditex's Bershka.
