Lioness Alex Scott becomes sportswear ambassador at M&S

Marks & Spencer has today announced the appointment of presenter and former England and Arsenal footballer Alex Scott as its first ambassador for sportswear.

The former Lioness marks the high street retailer’s first ambassador for fitness clothes as it hopes to entice more customers.

Scott took to Instagram to write: "I’m so excited to be announced as Marks & Spencer's Activewear Ambassador - what a moment!! Could not be happier. Really excited for you to see what’s to come with this iconic British brand.. Let’s go."

Sportswear is a growing area, particularly when it comes to Marks & Spencer's third-party strategy.

In February, sportswear giants Puma and Reebok were added to the retailer's line-up as it continued to bolster its sportswear offer as part of its ‘Brands at M&S’ strategy. The brands at M&S platform has now grown to over 90 third-party brands.

The launch coincided with M&S and The Sports Edit celebrating its first year of partnership, with sportswear searches growing by +110% in the period.

The sportswear market was estimated to be worth over £15.3 billion in the UK in 2022, accounting for approximately 26% of total spend on apparel. It is expected to continue to grow by 16.3% between 2022 and 2027.
