Swedish retailer Lindex has announced its sustainability promise which includes goals to combat clothing waste in landfills in less than a year. The brand’s aim is to inspire and empower everyone, including customers, to live more sustainably through everything, from small sustainable choices to sustainable lifestyles.

The promise sets the framework for Lindex’s eventual goal of a completely circular model and commits to setting targets aligned with UN Sustainable Development Goals. This is divided into three focus areas that hold women and sustainability at the helm:

  • Empowering women by taking the lead in creating fair and equal workplaces for women, respecting the planet by taking climate action;
  • Having a circular business approach and being a water responsible company;
  • Ensuring human rights by making sure Lindex’s whole value chain is progressing within living wage and that its workplaces are safe and healthy.

Anna-Karin Dahlberg, Corporate Sustainability Manager at Lindex, said: “Everything we do at Lindex, we do for women. But it’s not just the women of today. If we are to truly have a positive impact, we need to make a difference for future generations. Our new promise unites our ongoing sustainability work with the work we have ahead of us, now that we are raising the bar for ourselves.”

Highlights from the sustainability promise include:

  • By 2021, all its business partners are committed to Lindex new Code of Conduct that is progressive within gender equality;
  • By 2025, Lindex suppliers who stand for 80% of its production will have completed its Women Empowerment program and sustained the learnings;
