LFW: Isa Arfen mixes ordinary tasks with extraordinary clothes

Renee Waters
20 September 2016

The Isa Arfen SS17 collection was presented on the morning of 20 September at the Old Truman Brewery in East London. The inspiration for the collection was drawn from the body painting of the women from the Omo Valley tribe with a splash of Grace Jones and Keith Haring.

The mood and setting featured models in vignettes doing mundane tasks such as hanging laundry, answering the telephone, watering their plants, and braiding each other’s hair while wearing exotic clothing and balanced with jazz music.

Muted colours of all the pieces stood out against the backdrop of the concrete space. Raw fabrics were utilised such as jacquard, silk organza, linen, and crushed metal cotton for the collection. The result was very wearable yet luxe clothing that you could easily mix and match for dramatic effect. To cap off the complete look Charlotte Olympia designed the footwear for this collection in monochromatic colours.

Isa Arfen designer, Serafina Sama, was awarded the Breakthrough Womenswear Designer Award at the WGSN Futures Awards earlier this year. Isa Arfen exudes a quirky yet confident aesthetic for the woman that wants an exotic look from perfectly crafted materials.

The label was founded in 2011 and is available at Selfridges, Net-a-Porter, Avenue 32, Opening Ceremony, Matchesfashion.com, Nordstrom and many other stockists.
