Lanvin resurrected as it appoints new creative director

After a season of lying dormant, Paris-based luxury house Lanvin has been revived following the appointment of Bruno Sialleli as creative director.

The 31-year-old French designer joins the house from Loewe where he headed up menswear under creative director Jonathan Anderson. Prior to working for the Spanish house he held roles with Paco Rabanne, Acne Studios and Balenciaga.

Lanvin has struggled to find stability since the departure of its long-standing creative director Alber Elbaz in 2015. Since Elbaz left the brand, Bouchra Jarrar and Olivier Lapidus both had short stints as creative leads while menswear artistic director Lucas Ossendrijver left at the end of last year.

Just under a year ago Lanvin was acquired by Chinese conglomerate Fosun International, which also owns French leisure group Club Med, Italian menswear brand Caruso, accessories brand Folli Follie, and St John Knits in the US.

Fosun vowed to inject much needed investment into Lanvin, which at 129 years old is France's oldest couture house.

Lanvin's new CEO, Jean-Philippe Hecquet, said of Sialleli: “His singular and very personal vision, his audacity, his culture, his energy and ability to build a strong creative team definitely convinced us.”
