Lacoste poaches Adidas’ Creative Design Director

Pelagia Kolotouros has been appointed Creative Design Director at Lacoste, only weeks after Louise Trotter stepped down from the role.

Kolotouros will be tasked with overseeing the premium sportswear brand’s Creative Studio and the vision for all of its upcoming collections.

The brand also confirmed it will take a new approach to artistic direction, stating that it will “completely rethink” its model.

The designer started out at Theory in 1998 before joining Calvin Klein in 2003, where she was appointed Design Director Menswear. In 2017, Kolostouros became the Global Creative Director of outerwear specialist The North Face.

She has proven to be an expert at high-profile collaborations, having worked on collaborations such as Ivy Park and Pharrell Williams during her time at Adidas.

Catherine Spindler, Deputy CEO of Lacoste, welcomed Kolostouros to the team, noting the brand’s renewed artistic approach centred around pushing its creativity and desirability.

Spindler commented: “With her recognised expertise in developing collaborations with proven and unique influence, her ability to redefine creative models to elevate pieces to iconic status, and her talent for connecting cultures, particularly from fashion and sports, Pelagia has all the assets to accompany Lacoste in its new cycle of creative expression and in the pursuit of its ambition: to become the most inspiring French brand in fashion sports.”

Kolotouros’ appointment comes a month after the company announced Louise Trotter was stepping down from her role as Creative Director after a four-year stint. Not only did she tap into archival DNA within her work, but she also brought a fresh perspective to the brand and became renowned for her consistency.
