Kurt Geiger aiming to open more stores than ever before in 2022

Kurt Geiger's Chief Executive Neil Clifford has said he wants to open one new store every month in 2022, following strong retail sales and a growing consumer base driven by its charity initiatives.

Clifford told The Times that he felt “much more optimistic" than before, as sales had recovered to 80% of pre-pandemic levels with consumers returning to the high street and online sales remaining strong.

Following an increase in online sales in America the brand opened a Los Angeles warehouse.

He added that this year Kurt Geiger would open between 13 and 15 shops to answer the growing customer demand, commenting that these were "more stores in a year than we've ever done". This also follows the brand's ambition to exit a number of its department store concessions to have more control over its sales.

Kurt Geiger currently operates 70 standalone shops and 200 department store concessions.

The shoe brand supported the NHS throughout the pandemic, donating shop profits and launching a charitable collection with profits donated to the health service called "We Are One". NHS staff also received 50% discounts on purchases and over 3,000 staff were offered £100 vouchers.

Despite profits falling by 50%, from £40 million pre-pandemic to about £20 million, Clifford said Kurt Geiger had supported charities with donations of £1.2 million. He added that "kindness works" for the business and that the shoe brand would continue to offer 5% of profits to charity and would set up a foundation.
