Klarna UK hits 7 million customers and 1.6 million app downloads

Klarna, the disruptive payment provider announced today the number of UK customers using its financial services has doubled to 7 million.

The fintech company reported that latest figures showed sustained growth both in the UK and globally. The year on year global volumes and revenue increased by 32% and 31% respectively while the volume processed now amounts to over $35 billion.

Over the past 12 months, a new Klarna order was made every 1.3 seconds and over 1.6 million UK customers downloaded the Klarna app to date. In the last 6 months of 2019, an average of over 88,000 new UK customers a week chose Klarna’s Pay later services at checkout.

Klarna currently has more than 5,000 live merchants in the UK, including iconic British brands such as ASOS, JD Sports, Gymshark, Made.com, Boohoo Group, Missguided and Topshop.

General manager at Klarna UK, Luke Griffiths said: “These landmark numbers are testament to the enduring growth we have achieved, by offering customers newfound financial flexibility, enabling shoppers to get what they love, as well as remaining dedicated to our merchant partners across the country.”

Klarna offers direct payments, pay after delivery options and instalment plans in a smooth one-click purchase experience that lets consumers pay when and how they prefer to.

The leading global payments and shopping provider, was founded in 2005 in Stockholm, Sweden with the aim of making it easier for people to shop online. The payment provider is now one of the world’s largest banks and is providing payment solutions for 80 million consumers across 190,000 merchants in 17 countries.

Klarna also employs over 2,700 people worldwide, 120 of whom are based in the UK spread across its two offices, London and Manchester.
