Billionaire François-Henri Pinault, the chairman and CEO of the Kering Group, has pledged to donate €100m to the rebuilding of Notre Dame cathedral in Paris, which has been partly destroyed by a fire.

The 850-year-old UNESCO world heritage landmark was consumed by a blaze which destroyed its tower and roof yesterday (15 April). While the fire is still burning, it is hoped its main structure and famous rose window had been preserved.

According to a statement sent to AFP (Agence France Presser's), Pinault (whose Kering empire includes Gucci, Saint Laurent and Alexander McQueen) will be making the donation via his family's investment firm Artemis.

President Macron has vowed that France will completely rebuild Notre Dame, which is a national monument in France, along with the Eiffel Tower.
