Kensington Palace Princess Diana fashion exhibition opens Friday

Kensington Palace's Diana, Her Fashion Story exhibition opens on Friday 24 February and more details have emerged about what visitors can expect.

The exhibition, which marks 20 years since the passing of Diana, Princess of Wales, is housed at the Palace's Pigott Galleries and spans six rooms. It features 25 dresses, which chart her changing looks from the romantic style of her early years through the power shoulders of the 80s and her glamorous, sleek and confident style in the 90s.

Designers included in the show include David and Elizabeth Emanuel, Catherine Walker, David Sassoon, Versace and Regamus (the earliest piece on show from 1979). Sketches from designers are also included as are the covers of some of the magazines she appeared on including Vogue, Harper's Bazaar and Vanity Fair.

Diana became a bona fide style icon following her engagement to Prince Charles through to her untimely death in 1997. She was one of the world's most photographed women and in today's parlance would be consider the ultimate style influencer, capable of launching trends simply by leaving the house.

"She championed British fashion designers and put many of them on the international stage. Everything she wore had a huge impact and was copied by the high street," curator Eleri Lynn, told WWD today.

The exhibition will run for two years and adult ticket prices start at £16.50 and can be purchased online.
