Karen Millen appoints Tracey Stainer as creative head

Karen Millen has appointed Tracey Stainer to the newly created role of creative design director. Stainer, who is currently ready-to-wear product director at LK Bennett, will begin her new role in the spring.

Prior to joining LK Bennett in 2012 Stainer spent 12 years at high street chain French Connection. She is indirectly replacing Gemma Metheringham who was chief creative officer at the premium high street chain, before leaving last year to join Next as creative director of its multi-brand arm Label.

"We’re absolutely delighted Tracey is joining Karen Millen as creative design director, bringing a proven track record of developing collections that build strong brand through real customer focus," said Karen Millen CEO Beth Butterwick.

Butterwick joined the business last summer from Bonmarche; she replaced Mike Shearwood who left at the end of 2015 after failing to gain support for an MBO from its Icelandic owner. Shearwood then took up the role at footwear business Clarks last September.

Stainer will head up the Karen Millen design team and report into Butterwick.
