Juice Corporation falls into administration and is selling off its brands

Juice Corporation, the owner of brands including menswear label Gabicci and womenswear brand Elizabeth Emanuel, has been placed into administration and is selling off the IP to its brands along with £7.5m worth of stock.

The business was founded by Shami Ahmed, who made his name at the height of the "Madchester" movement with his Joe Bloggs brand which was also part of the group. Ahmed is no longer listed as a director of the company's brands, which are run by other family members.

Administrators CG & Co have made all 60 staff at the Manchester business redundant and hope to sell the IP rights, stock and other assets as a single lot in the coming days.

Additional brands, which are part of the stable, include Rawcraft, Loyalty & Faith and Juice and it is also a licensee for Slazenger and Kangol clothing. Its last recorded accounts show sales of £13m.

The administration may provide the opportunity for designer Elizabeth Emanuel, who made her name designing Princess Diana's wedding dress (above), to win back her name. She sold her brand to Ahmed in 1997 but two years later the pair fell out and she pursued a long legal campaign to win back her brand rights, however Juice eventually won the rights to use the brand on eveningwear, lingerie and nightwear. Emanuel continues to design couture from her studio in London for private clients.
