Joules posts strong Christmas trading figures

Premium British fashion and lifestyle brand Joules has reported total retail sales up 19.2% in the seven weeks to 7 January, defying the volatile market conditions.

The AIM-listed business said its growth was down to strong performances across both store and e-commerce channels and added that its retail gross margin was expected to be in line with the same period last year. Joules maintained its "disciplined and selective" approach to promotions over the festive period.

"The Group's retail performance through the Christmas trading period is testament to the strength of the Joules brand, unique product proposition and customer engagement.  Both stores and e-commerce channels delivered good growth with the increasing awareness and popularity of the brand," said CEO Colin Porter.

Joules, which operates 118 stores in the UK and Republic of Ireland and is stocked in a further 1,500 stockists worldwide, will post its half year results for the 26 weeks to 26 November on 31 January.

The brand offers lifestyle and fashion products for men, women and children, and last week revealed it had entered into the activewear market with a new collection for women.
