Kavanagh joins John Lewis from YOOX Net-A-Porter Group (YNAP). Before her MD positions, she previously served in senior buying and merchandising roles at department stores including Harvey Nichols, House of Fraser and Fenwick.

Peter Ruis, Executive Director of John Lewis, said: "Vikki's extensive experience and proven leadership in the retail sector make her an invaluable addition to our team. Her strategic vision and commercial acumen will be instrumental as we continue to evolve and enhance our customer offering."

Kavanagh said: "I'm incredibly excited and proud to be joining John Lewis, which is a brand I’ve admired for many years.  John Lewis has a unique opportunity to redefine the UK omnichannel retail experience and I'm looking forward to working with the team to deliver an exceptional offer for our customers."

Kavanagh will take up post in April and will assume the role of Chief Commercial Officer reporting to Peter Ruis.

It follows the news yesterday that John Lewis' Commercial Director Kathleen Mitchell announced her departure after more than three and a half years in the role.

In a post on LinkedIn, Mitchell said: "After an incredible journey at John Lewis, I’ve decided to embark on a new chapter.

"I took some time at the start of the year to recharge with my family and reflect on the wonderful experiences and colleagues I’ve had. We made big moves, delivered results, innovated and positioned the business for the future.

"Huge heartfelt thanks to the outstanding commercial team and wishing every success to the iconic Partnership. Excited to share more about what’s next soon."
