John Lewis launches menswear rental to meet demand

The John Lewis Fashion Rental platform, powered by HURR, has today launched menswear, with a focus on occasion wear including from brands such as Hugo Boss, Gant, Charles Tyrwhitt, Hay Life and John Lewis own brands.

It comes after the retailer saw searches for ‘men’s rental’ consistently be in the top 30 searches on the John Lewis website for the past 18 months.

It also follows the “huge success” of the retailer’s womenswear rental platform, which launched in 2022 and has seen a 52% increase in members and a 40% rise in rentals year-on-year – expanding into maternity wear, ski wear and wedding dresses.

John Lewis Commercial Director, Kathleen Mitchell, said: “We’re unique on the high street to be able to offer the widest range of multiple brands to rent from everyday suits to more premium brands and styles.

“A perfect solution for a last minute dinner party or day at the races. This is just the beginning of menswear rental and we’re really excited to see it grow.”

HURR CEO, Victoria Prew, commented: “We are really excited to collaborate with John Lewis Fashion Rental, one of our long-standing partners, to extend its rental offering to men.

“As a category, menswear is very much undiscovered in rental and this is a unique opportunity for us with incredible potential to shift consumer behaviour towards smarter fashion choices.”

The platform will host a carefully curated selection of contemporary brands, with rental prices starting from £40 for a four day rental for a dinner jacket and trousers.

Customers can browse the collection on the fashion rental link on the John Lewis website and choose to rent a garment for four, eight, 16 or 30 days, with next day delivery if needed.

Once the items have been chosen, the products are posted directly to the address and a pre-paid postage label for returns is included. On return, the items will be dry cleaned by HURR and ready to be rented again.
