John Lewis brings J Crew sister brand Madewell to the UK

John Lewis has gained the exclusive rights to sell J Crew's younger, and some would say cooler, sister brand Madewell in its UK stores.

The denim-centred brand will be introduced to its new landmark 230,000sq ft Westfield London store next week, the Evening Standard reports. It will be rolled out to further John Lewis stores this autumn.

“The introduction of Madewell builds on our focus to provide our customers with a selection of unique brands that they cannot find anywhere else on the high street,” Jo Bennett, head of womenswear at the department store said. In its recent year-end results John Lewis revealed that its ambition was for 50% of its brands to be own label or exclusive.

Previously Madewell, which sells t-shirts from around £25 and jeans from around £125, was only available to UK consumers via international shipping on its own website with a selection of items available on Net-A-Porter.

Head designer at the brand Joyce Lee said it had seen "a continued demand for a physical presence from our UK customers so are excited to be finally able to provide them with a place they can experience Madewell in person.”
