Jimmy Choo launches Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon collection

06 February 2023

Jimmy Choo and its Creative Director Sandra Choi have launched a capsule collection in celebration of the 30th anniversary of Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon.

The new collection champions "bold individuality, zeitgeist-defining imagery and female empowerment", fusing Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon’s pop culture influence with Jimmy Choo's "prism of luxury and glamour".

Characterised as ‘shōjo manga’, meaning ‘girls comics’, femininity and female power is at the heart of Naoko Takeuchi’s Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon.

Taking inspiration from these qualities, the collection features both footwear and accessories themed around the Sailor Guardians characters. The colours of each Sailor Guardian define each style with their "unique persona and individual traits".

For the global launch, Naoko Takeuchi’s manga artworks decorate the collection's accessories and façades of various Jimmy Choo flagship stores around the world. Alongside the fashion range, Jimmy Choo has collaborated with DJ Honey Dijon to create two original tracks inspired by Sailor Moon.

The Jimmy Choo x Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon collection will be exclusively available in Europe at Selfridges from the 14 February 2022. The launch will coincide with a dedicated pop-up in the department store’s accessories hall, featuring "playful installations with the ultimate photo opportunity for Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon superfans".

Sandra Choi, Creative Director at Jimmy Choo, said: "Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon is a unique global phenomenon - a manga and anime that resonates, bridging cultures and languages, speaking to different generations, bringing us all together. That is what drew me to this project, to celebrate 30 years of Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon through this collaboration.

"Being able to work so closely with Naoko Takeuchi has been so inspiring. This collaboration underscores our shared values not just of female empowerment but for fashion’s ability to inspire inclusivity and individuality through personality and self-belief. The notion of transformation via fashion is central to Naoko Takeuchi, and clothes play a vital role in the identity of her super heroines, especially their shoes, the most powerful transformer you can step into.”
