Jigsaw streamlines board as six members step down

Jigsaw has announced the departure of six board members as the retailer looks to "streamline" its leadership amid the COVID-19 crisis.

Records at Companies House revealed that Isabel Spearman, Despina Don-Wauchope, David Hall, Richard Walker, James Murray-Wells and Silvana Rossi have all stood down from its board in recent weeks. Former acting CEO Toby Foreman stood down in January.

In a statement to Retail Gazette the company said: “Jigsaw confirms that six of its board members have stepped down, as the fashion retailer looks to streamline its board to ensure the business is more agile and better placed to deal with the challenges posed by the current Covid-19 outbreak."

The company, which was founded in 1970 by John and Belle Robinson, has undergone much change at the top in recent years. In July 2018 its CEO Peter Ruis stood down and was replaced by Chris Williamson on an interim basis. Williamson then moved into a non-executive role to be replaced by Foreman, who had been HR director, also on an interim basis, before his departure in January.

Jigsaw received £20m in addition finding in February 2018 with Carphone Warehouse founder David Ross becoming a major investor.

Its stores remain closed as part of the UK lockdown and the company said it was looking to re-open them safely when the Government gives the go-ahead, which is anticipated to be from 1 June.

The company closed its high-end multi-brand boutique concept, The Shop at Bluebird, in January of this year, not long after it had moved to a new location in Covent Garden. The store was to be remodelled in a branch of Jigsaw.
