JD Sports unveils ‘significant’ upsize of Meadowhall flagship store
JD Sports has unveiled its relocated and upsized store at Meadowhall Shopping Centre in Sheffield which, at 29,225 sq ft, is three times the size of its previous store.
Located on Meadowhall's Lower High Street, adjacent to Miniso, the new store combines five units to create a prominent new store and marks a “major investment” for JD.
It comes just as the retailer has announced the second tranche of its £200 million share buyback programme, which will see JD return an additional £100 million, following the first £100 million share buyback programme in February 2026.
The latest buyback will commence immediately and is expected to complete by the end of the financial year, being 31 January 2027.

The expanded Meadowhall store enables JD to showcase an enhanced retail concept featuring extended product ranges from leading brands including Nike, Adidas and The North Face, alongside performance labels such as HOKA, Salomon and Saucony.
With dedicated brand and product zones, as well as space for regular in-store activations, the new store “delivers an elevated customer experience”.
James Air, Director of Group Real Estate and Acquisitions at JD, said: “We're proud to be expanding our presence in Meadowhall, creating a prime megastore at the heart of the region.
“This investment reflects our commitment to the city and gives customers access to an even bigger selection of the world's leading sports, fashion and lifestyle brands, all within a phenomenal, high-spec new retail space. We can't wait to welcome shoppers through the doors.”

Richard Crowther, Retail Leasing Director at Meadowhall landlord British Land, added: “When retailers choose to invest in refurbishing and upsizing their stores, it is a clear signal of both the success they are seeing today and the future potential they see in the destination.
“JD Sports’ impressive new 63m frontage brings a new level of vibrancy to the high street, while creating an engaging store environment that reflects the brand’s unique identity.
“We are always looking for ways to enhance Meadowhall’s offer through new brands and concepts. This latest deal is a great example of how we are working alongside leading retailers to deliver the best possible experience for our shoppers and support the long-term success of the destination.”
Belstaff and Mint Velvet are soon to join the fashion mix at Meadowhall, while Michael Kors has invested in a significant store refit.
