JD Sports strengthens board with two non-executive director appointments

Global sportswear retailer JD Sports has appointed Angela Luger and Darren Shapland as Non-Executive Directors, effective 1 June 2023.

Luger will join the Remuneration Committee and Shapland will join the Audit and Risk Committee.

Angela Luger brings a wealth of retail and Non-Executive Director experience to the Board. Her experience lies in digital commerce, digital transformation and marketing.

She has recently been appointed as a Non-Executive Director of Jet2 and is also currently a Non-Executive Director of New Look, Portmeirion Group (where she chairs the Nomination Committee) and SCS Group (where she acts as Senior Independent Director). In addition, Luger is the Chair of Paint Traders Ltd and WealthiHer Network.

During her extensive career, Luger has held positions at global brands including Cadbury's, Coca Cola and Asda. She has previously acted as Managing Director at Debenhams and CEO at The Original Factory Shop and N Brown Group.

Darren Shapland

Darren Shapland has worked in the retail and consumer businesses for over 35 years, as both an Executive and Non-Executive Director. In recent years he has held a variety of roles at Poundland, Ferguson, and Ladbrokes.

Shapland is currently Chair of Topps Tiles and Chair/Director of several privately-owned businesses.

In his executive career he was CEO for Carpetright. Before this,  he was CFO of large retailers including J Sainsbury, Carpetright, Superdrug and divisions of The Burton Group.
