JD Sports opens third unit at Westfield Stratford following temporary store closure

Following the temporary closure of its original store location, JD Sports has opened in a third unit at East London's Westfield Stratford.

The new store, located on the Lower Ground Floor level, will continue to provide local residents and shoppers alike with their fix of all their favourite brands including Nike, Adidas, The North Face, and Under Armour.

JD's current store on the Ground Floor will be closed whilst an extension and refurbishment takes place, expanding into the former Disney Store location.

JD Sports also has another location, located on the highest floor of Westfield Stratford. This two-storey retail unit was previously occupied by Topshop, which first opened in September 2011 in time for the 2012 London Olympic Games. Topshop moved to a smaller unit before entering administration in November 2020.

Speaking to TheIndustry.fashion, James Air, Head of Group Acquisitions at JD, said: “We’re excited to open a further JD store on the Lower Ground Floor of Westfield Stratford, whilst we make some exciting changes to make our main Stratford store bigger and better. This new Lower Ground Floor store is in a great location and will enable us to continue serving our customer’s needs, whilst our Ground Floor store temporarily closes for refurbishment from tomorrow, 25th February."

JD Sports third unit in Westfield Stratford, replacing another during refurbishment.

Westfield Stratford has seen a large amount of change in the last 12 months, with fashion giant Zara set to expand its presence at Westfield Stratford and open another unit. The new store will be located on the first floor, next door to Primark and the upcoming Giulio store.

Primark is also set to double its presence, creating 250 new jobs and expanding from 45,100 sq ft to 81,000 sq ft. The value retailer is set to complete the expansion by early 2024, promising customers "more of the great style and incredible value they love the most."

Last week, TheIndustry.fashion confirmed the closure of NEXT's store at Westfield Stratford.

And just this morning, Monsoon unveiled its first dedicated childrenswear boutique, set to open on 1 March ahead of the key Easter and Ramadan shopping season.
