JD Sports opens second store at Westfield Stratford

JD Sports has opened a second store at Westfield Stratford City, signing a 10-year lease for the new 31,000 sq ft flagship location.

JD Sports has also renewed the lease on its other unit at the shopping centre, taking its overall footprint to more than 40,000 sq ft. The second store has more than quadrupled the space currently occupied by the brand and is part of the retailer’s plan to “fulfil demand” in the area.

The two-storey retail unit was previously occupied by Topshop, which first opened in September 2011 in time for the 2012 London Olympic Games. Topshop moved to a smaller unit before entering administration in November 2020.

The store's opening will generate 110 jobs for people in the local area, according to the company.

The first 250 customers who spend more than £100 during the first two weekends will receive Nando's vouchers and basketball caps. A live DJ performance will also run over the next five weekends.

Last month, JD Sports confirmed plans to open a new Cheltenham mega store in a former Topshop unit.
