Jacket Required dedicates third of show to sustainable brands

Jacket Required – taking place at the Old Truman Brewery on 22-23 January 2020 – is dedicating a third of the show to sustainable brands, with an installation by designer Christopher Raeburn.

The re-edited layout of the show will feature three"‘showrooms", with Showroom A brimming with sustainable fashion pioneers including Raeburn, United Change Makers, Komodo, Dedicated Brand, Daisy King Club, TOMS, Thalassophy, Bjanko Milano, Dashel and Ucon Acrobatics.

Raeburn is collaborating with award-winning Icelandic photographer Ragnar Axelsson who has been photographing the people, animals and landscape of the most remote regions of the Arctic, including Iceland, Siberia and Greenland for over 40 years, powerfully getting across how relationships are being altered by the unprecedented changes in climate.

Christopher Raeburn said: “Ragnar’s work cut through from the moment I saw his first London exhibition back in 2010 with stark images capturing a disappearing world that left me both inspired and chastened in equal measure.

“Mother Nature is fighting a battle that can no longer be won with odds so firmly stacked against her. Ragnar’s images challenge humanity to consider their actions and make positive changes before it’s too late.”

Raeburn has used original full colour images captured by Axelsson throughout his new collection – printed on to 100% recycled cotton-feel polyesters and silk habotai. Additionally, CARCASS is a new extension of the designer’s "Remade" concept, utilising every last scrap of the original garment in its entirety, and adding nothing new but branded labels and thread.

United Change Makers (UCM) is the new label being launched by Jacket Required sustainable ambassador, Phil Wildbore. It’s a capsule collection featuring timeless pieces that last the test of time.

Wildbore said: “We all have a role to play in making fashion more sustainable, both in the way we treat our suppliers and shoppers as well as how we look after our clothes. At UCM we are all about the close relationships with our sourcing team and factories, all of which are passionate about working with quality, sustainable fabrics and fibres.

"This means our jeans are made with care by a team who are looked after. With this, we hope our customers share our philanthropic attitude to fashion.”
